Deal of the Day: Rebecca Minkoff at Yoox

I love Rebecca Minkoff bags. Love doesn't cover it. The prices, on the other hand, are just cruel.

Yoox saves the day! They're having a massive End-of-Winter sale (End-of-Winter...is it really Spring already?) with their merchandise at up to 90% off retail. It's definitely been picked over, but somehow a few Rebecca Minkoff pieces remain...and they're all under $100...yes, I'm serious.

Rebecca Minkoff Loveletter Clutch, $59, available here

Rebecca Minkoff Loveletter Satchel, $89, available here

Osborn Shoes: Where Fashion Meets Philanthropy

Over Thanksgiving, I was introduced to a company that I hadn't heard of before: Osborn Shoes. After finding out more about the company, and spending a little too much time perusing through the products on their website, I thought that I'd dedicate a post to them so that more people can find out about their inspiring work and impressive (and stylish!) commodities. Osborn Shoes is a company that has vertically integrated manufacturing-- which means, among many other things, that they don't use sweat-shops. It was established in 2009, and offers handmade footwear: oxfords, booties, and even one-of-a-kind pieces. Here's their story:

"Co-founder Aaron Osborn, whose family runs one of the largest orphanages in Guatemala, stumbled upon the idea for Osborn in 2007 when he met an out-of-work cobbler while doing charitable work in the country. He and co-founder, Carla Venticinque, were searching for a way to combine their artistic backgrounds with their desire to uplift their adopted homeland. This search led to Osborn Shoes. That first cobbler still works with them full time, as do a small driven team of 20 other gifted artisans. Nestled in the volcanic mountains outside Guatemala City, these artisans craft shoes in a time honored old-world manufacturing environment dedicated to integrity and quality."

It's encouraging to see that, despite the presence of immense competition in the marketplace, there is still a company out there who's trying to make a difference-- not just money. As wonderful as all that is, it  gets even better: the shoes are fashion-forward, unique, and effortlessly trendy. At Osborn Shoes, your money will go further than just buying you a new pair of shoes. Look good and feel good, that's a double whammy!

Be sure to check out their teaser video for their lookbook and music video here, and if you like what you see, stay tuned, because they're about to add heels to their Spring collection!

The Black Pump: Is It in Your Closet?

A long, long time ago, my fabulous friend, Ariel, asked me to find her some affordable, basic, closed-toe pumps to wear to her internship at Parliament. About a week after she asked, she abandoned me to go frolic around London, so I never got a chance to find her those pumps.

It's a little late for Ariel to get any use out of this post (serves you right for leaving me), but I felt like it still has to be done. A simple, black, closed-toe pump is such a canonical piece of fashion that it needs to be a resident of every woman's closet. From the office, to the classroom, to the party, to the grocery store-- black pumps fit seamlessly into any outfit.

Here are some affordable versions of this iconic item, enjoy!

Deal of the Day

This Forever 21, studded vest is the perfect accent piece-- and it's only $29.80! Throw on a pair of skinny jeans, a white tee, and a pair of basic black pumps, then top it all off with this vest. Ta-da! You're a fashionista.

The Forever 21 vest is not identical to the Literature Noir vest below ($552 at bluefly.com), but it definitely has the same rocker-chic vibe.

Deal of the Day: Carlos by Carlos Santana Courage Wedge at DSW

On a routine trip to my local DSW, I discovered these beauties-- the Carlos by Carlos Santana Courage Wedges (sorry for the picture quality of the shoes, I didn't have a camera on hand so I resorted to using my phone). Best part? They were on clearance for $32 (!!!). I am mildly obsessed. They are the perfect fusion of the harsh, sleek leather trend and the wild, sexy animal-print/fur trend. I only have one word for these: fierce (at least, that's how I felt strutting around in them at DSW).

Here's my inspiration for these shoes:

This Season's Five Most-Wanted Wardrobe Pieces

There's a carpet of dead leaves on the ground and I can’t walk outside without being shoved backwards by the wind; I think it's safe to say that fall has arrived. Aside from the slight issue of having permanently, slightly-too-wind-swept hair, I am ecstatic about finally being able to whip out my fall/winter wardrobe—and yet, for some reason, I seem to be alone in my adoration towards the new season. Last week, I got lunch with a friend whom—much to my horror—showed up in a bright purple, spaghetti-strap sundress. Today, I watched in awe as a throng of shivering girls, clutching their cardigan-shrouded shoulders, walked around campus in their favorite pairs of summer sandals. What will it take for everyone to realize that summer has packed up and moved out? Put away the sundresses, say goodbye to those sandals, and learn to embrace the cold weather! Sweaters aren’t all that bad, you know.
In order to get everyone a little more excited, I’ve decided to put together a list of five essential wardrobe pieces for this fall (and winter, because let’s face it, it’s only a month or two away). Hopefully these pieces will give your wardrobe the added oomph that you need to brave the harsh wind and survive the frostbite. Enjoy!
1. A Military-Inspired Jacket
Military is one of the hottest trends out right now. It may be a little less cute and a little more combat, but it definitely brings a shabby-chic flare to any outfit. If you’re looking for an easy way to bring the military look into your closet, try a jacket. Military-inspired jackets are subtle but effective in finishing off any look so that you’re both trendy and toasty!
2. A Flat Boot
Whether your prefer suede to leather, or over-the-knee to ankle, make sure that you have a flat boot in your closet this season. Flat boots are both stylish and practical, allowing you to make it through even the iciest weather. The military trend has invaded the world of shoes, too, making lace-up boots one of this season’s most coveted items. If lace-up boots are too tough-girl for you, don’t fret, a classic pair of cognac-colored, leather, riding boots will spruce up any outfit.
3. Something (Faux) Fur
Fur is everywhere; from bags, to scarves, to hats, to coats, to vests, to shoes, it’s ubiquitous—and I’m not complaining! It will be both your warmest article of clothing and your most stylish, because vintage-inspired pieces are on the top of this season’s most-wanted list. If you’re a little shy about making this dramatic fashion statement, try incorporating fur into your wardrobe by buying a jacket with a fur-trimmed hood, or gloves with fur detailing. If you can’t get enough of this vintage look, go for a fur coat, it will deliver instant glam to any look. Just a tip for anyone with a tight budget (or any animal lovers): go for faux-fur, it is infinitely less expensive and significantly more humane!
4. A Camel-Colored Coat
Neutral hues are some of this season’s hottest shades. The best part? They go with everything! That’s why a camel-colored coat is a necessity this season; it’s chic, sleek, and classic, allowing you to look put-together even when the cold weather’s getting you down. If you’re liking the minimalist trend, try a studio coat, if you’re more of a prepster, go with a basic trench. You can’t go wrong with camel!
5. Something That Sparkles
Let’s face it: we all need a pick-me-up from time-to-time. Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean that you have to exile anything fun from your wardrobe. In fact, you should always have fun with your wardrobe, and adding sequins or glitter is a perfect way to do that. The rockstar-glam look is very in, and you can achieve it with glitter-covered pumps, an embellished headband, or a sequin mini-dress. It’s important to have fun, but don’t forget to have some restraint—no one wants to look like a walking disco ball!

We've all been to Target. We've all been to Walmart. But who's been to Kohl's?

I, for one, have been once. Upon entering, I became overwhelmed by the sheer size of the store-- and the eerie lack of people-- and immediately left. Now, I regret that decision.

So, head on over to your nearest Kohl's store (MapQuest it, since I can bet money that you don't know where it is) or check out Kohls.com for their Fall 2010 Collections.
